Minneapolis Police Honor Block Clubs and Volunteers

The Minneapolis Police Department has chosen 14 block clubs from across the city as winners of 2007 Building Blocks Awards, which are awarded each year to the city’s most active and effective block clubs. One neighborhood volunteer has also been awarded the Teresa S. Ruhland Youth Award. The 2007 Teresa S. Ruhland Youth Award recipient is Abia Isse Ali, a mother of three and a volunteer at the Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center since it opened in 2003. The Minneapolis Police Department awards this recognition to a volunteer or volunteers who do an outstanding job of involving young people in community activities. Ali works as a Human Service Representative in the Family Services Division of the Hennepin County Economic Assistance program. The Building Blocks Awards are awarded annually to blocks clubs that demonstrate a commitment to keeping their neighborhoods safe by working to connect neighbors and providing information that help homeowners prevent crimes. 2007 Building Blocks Awards:
