Two fundraising events held on separate days - Saturday, October 3 and Saturday, October 10, 2009 - will benefit B.F. Nelson Park and other projects in the St. Anthony West neighborhood. B.F. Nelson Park is the large parcel of vacant land on Marshall Street Northeast, between 2nd & 5th Avenues.
"An Autumn Eve in Historic Northeast," occurs Saturday, October 3rd from 7-11 p.m. at Elsie's Banquet Room, 729 Marshall St NE (at 8th Ave.) Minneapolis. Enjoy wine tasting, sample delicious food, bid on the silent auction and hear live music in a cozy, fun atmosphere. Purchase advance tickets for $25, or $30 at the door. To purchase tickets, contact Pete Gamades at 612.310.6151 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
All proceeds from these community-sponsored events go towards revitalizing the B.F. Nelson site (part of the Mississippi Central Riverfront green space, adjacent to Boom Island Park) and other neighborhood activities. Last year's fundraiser garnered more than $15,000. These initiatives are part of Northeast Minneapolis community efforts to balance commercial and residential riverfront development with communal recreation areas.
