Community Organizer

The Cleveland Neighborhood Association currently seeks a part time (~10 hours/week ) community organizer who will engage residents and other stakeholders to determine their issues and priorities for the improvement of the neighborhood, encourage participation in the organization and facilitate the dialogue between the residents , other stakeholders and the neighborhood organization. The Community Organizer will serve at the direction of the Board of Directors and the CNA coordinator. Some evening and weekends will be required.

Community Participation

Determine residents and other stakeholders’ issues, concerns and priorities for the neighborhood and the City through a variety of strategies:

  • surveys
  • door knocking
  • person to person interviews at events
  • dialogue at community meetings and events

Elicit ideas from residents on strategies that can address their issues and concerns.

Raise awareness of the organization and its functions

Provide information about Neighborhood and City programs and resources available to stakeholders.

Encourage the development of additional block clubs and engage block leaders to serve as liaisons between residents and the Cleveland Neighborhood Association.

Reach out across the diverse Cleveland Neighborhood population and encourage residents and business owners to volunteer with the organization by serving on the Cleveland Neighborhood board, attending community meetings, participating on CNA committees or in other ways as needed.

Organize community building events

Special Projects

Assist the organization with special projects as they develop.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Self–motivated , self starter
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Good organizational skills including the ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to work independently and with groups
  • Availability on some weekends and evenings
  • Computer literacy: Good working knowledge of MS Word and use of e-mail; some familiarity with MS Excel and Publisher.
  • Able to plan events
  • Experience in community organizing, familiarity with the Cleveland Neighborhood and residents and knowledge of the City is preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects

  • Expertise with Social Media

Compensation

The Community Organizer will serve as an employee of the Cleveland Neighborhood Association
